together the absolute best "paper team".
League Formats May Vary
Formats of leagues differ depending on the sponsor, group
or purpose. Some leagues are organized by friends and are kept small for the pure enjoyment of the group of
friends. Other leagues are "mega leagues' that are actually 'fantasy baseball" contest ran by corporate sponsors such as ESPN,
BASEBALL TODAY, and BASEBALL AMERICA. There are leagues available year round if you look!
The league's format is how many "stat categories" the leagues
uses to collect points. Some leagues are "4x4" leagues meaning they have only 4 offensive(hitting) categories and 4 defensive(pitching)
categories A '4x4" league will have a total of 8 categories. Leagues may also be "5x5", (10 total) or "6x6",
(12 total) leagues. Most leagues have the same number of offensive and defensive statistical categories. It
makes the league run much smoother when you use a 50/50 split of offensive and defensive categories.
Scoring: How does the Point System Work?
In a point system a team gets one point for each place you rank in each category. For example,
if there are 10 teams in the league and you finish first in a category, you get 10 points for that category. If you finish
5th, you get 5 points. In event that teams tie in a category. The teams each receive a equal share of the sum of the three
places combined. Here is how that works. Three of 10 teams are tied for 3rd place.
3rd Place(8 points) + 4th Place (7 points) + 5th Place (6 points) = 21 points
The three teams equally split the 21 points. Each team receives 7 points.
